|
|
In Path of Exile 2, Regal Orbs turn a good magic base into a rare fast, keeping your best mods—farm shards by disenchanting rares, loop early bosses, then save Regals for high-value weapons, armour, and jewels.
There's a moment in Path of Exile 2 where you're not exactly weak, but you're not safe either. Your flasks feel thin, your resists are "fine," and the next boss has that one move that keeps deleting you. That's when Regal Orbs start to feel like a real tool instead of a fancy drop. They let you take a magic item you've already shaped into something usable and bump it into a rare without wiping the good rolls. If you're short on currency, some players will top up essentials through EZNPC so they can keep crafting momentum instead of stalling out in the hubs.
How Regals Actually Save Your Run
A Regal isn't a miracle button. It's more like insurance. You pick a blue item that already has the kind of stats you'd hate to lose—life plus a solid resist, or a weapon with the right damage line—and you lock that in. Then the orb adds one extra random affix and upgrades it to rare. Compared to tossing a Chaos Orb, it's way less of a gamble, especially on a base you've invested time into. You'll notice this most around the mid-campaign stretch, when your gear is "almost there" and you just need one more line to stop getting chunked every pack.
Easy Shards, Smarter Vendor Habits
The steady path is boring but it works: stop mindlessly selling rares. In hubs, disenchant them instead. Each rare turns into a Regal Shard, and ten shards stack into a full Regal Orb. It feels slow until you do a few dense runs and realize your bag fills up constantly anyway. Also, keep an eye on duplicates—there's a vendor recipe that gives you a Regal Orb when you sell three rares of the exact same base type. You won't hit it every session, but when you do, it's a nice little spike in progress.
Farming Routes That Don't Waste Your Time
If you're still in the acts, loop areas near your main hub where elites and side events show up often. You're hunting for the stuff that actually drops loot: chunky rares, event spawns, Breach-style encounters, anything that sprays items. Clear fast, reset, repeat. Aim to come back with enough rares to justify the trip, not just a couple scraps. Once you're into mapping, push what you can clear quickly and safely—higher tiers pay better, but only if you aren't crawling through the boss fight every time.
When to Click the Orb (And When Not To)
Don't Regal every blue you pick up. You'll go broke and still feel undergeared. Do it in order: first make the magic item worth upgrading, then Regal it. Use whatever tools you've got—Essences, Fossils, or just targeted rerolls—to land the key prefix or suffix you actually need, then lock it in with the Regal and hope the extra line lands well. Chests and weapons tend to be the best targets, because one good bonus can change how the whole character feels. And if you're trying to speed the grind, stack a bit of item rarity, play with friends when you can, and keep an eye on listings like POE 2 iteams while you plan upgrades so you're not crafting blind.
