|
|
Before using the Shard of Agony in Diablo 4, players should understand its importance, how to obtain it, and its precise application to maximize its value for endgame progress. The Shard of Agony is a powerful summoning material used primarily to unlock the boss Duriel in the Gaping Crevasse at Kehjistan. This boss is a tough high-level encounter whose defeat yields top-tier rewards, including Uber Unique items, making the Shard crucial for serious players targeting the best loot.
Obtaining Shards of Agony requires defeating Grigoire, the Galvanic Saint, in the Hall of the Penitent located in Dindai Flats on World Tier 4 difficulty. The player who summons Grigoire by using 12 Living Steel and then successfully defeats him will receive Shards of Agony as part of the reward hoard. It is essential to be prepared with gear resistant to lightning damage, as Grigoire's attacks are largely based on this element. This preparation ensures the fight is manageable and efficient for faster farming.
Once collected, Shards of Agony must be used carefully, as their main purpose is to summon Duriel. To do this, players need at least two Shards and two Mucus-Slick Eggs to activate Duriel's altar in the Gaping Crevasse. The fight against Duriel is significantly challenging, requiring good strategy and coordination, especially in groups. Using the Shard without adequate preparation may result in repeated failures and wasted resources, so timing and readiness are key.
Strategically, players should balance farm sessions for Shards with their inventory and resource management. Since multiple Shards are needed to repeatedly summon Duriel, farming must be efficient, minimizing downtime between fights. Prioritizing farming routes that yield Living Steel quickly, such as Helltide zones, helps sustain the supply of Shards. Understanding when to stop farming and use the Shards also affects gameplay progression and experience gains.
Before using the Shard of Agony, players must:
Secure Shards by defeating Grigoire on World Tier 4 using efficient builds and lightning resistance.
Acquire the necessary complementary items like Mucus-Slick Eggs to summon Duriel.
Prepare for a tough Duriel fight with good gear, tactics, and possibly team coordination.
Manage farming and usage effectively to maintain a steady flow of Shards for continuous boss summoning.
Mastering these steps ensures that Shards of Agony become a powerful gateway from drop to significant in-game power and progression in Diablo 4. |
