Hi everyone,
I’m planning to take the AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional certification soon, and I’d love to get some insights from those who have already passed it or are currently preparing. This certification seems quite advanced, focusing on automation, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and security best practices, all core areas of a DevOps engineer’s daily responsibilities.
From what I’ve gathered, this isn’t a beginner-friendly exam. You need solid hands-on experience with AWS services like CodePipeline, CloudFormation, CloudWatch, and ECS/EKS. The exam also dives deep into topics like disaster recovery, deployment automation, and operational excellence. That means it’s not just about knowing individual services, but understanding how to integrate them effectively into large-scale systems.
For anyone looking to achieve this certification, here’s a strategy I’ve been following so far:
Understand the Exam Blueprint: Start by reviewing the official exam guide to identify key domains and their weightage.

Get Hands-On: Set up small projects using AWS developer tools and automate real workflows. The best learning comes from doing.

Study Reliable Sources: Use AWS whitepapers, re: Invent sessions, and official documentation to get a clear idea of best practices.

Take Practice Tests: Reviewing AWS Certified DevOps Engineer Professional exam questions from trusted platforms can really help gauge your readiness. They expose you to realistic scenarios and the kind of problem-solving required.

For those who have already passed, how long did your preparation take, and what resources did you find most helpful? Also, how much hands-on experience would you say is necessary before attempting the exam?
I think hearing different perspectives will really help those of us on the journey to becoming AWS Certified DevOps Engineers. Any guidance, study plan tips, or practice suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
