https://www.u4gm.com/mlb-the-show-25-stubs If you’re diving into MLB The Show 25’s Battle Royale mode, the most critical part of your success hinges on how you handle the draft. This guide breaks down foundational strategy and why understanding tier distribution is essential before making your first pick.
Understand the Draft Format
The Battle Royale (BR) draft consists of 26 rounds:
4 Diamond rounds
3 Gold rounds
9 Silver rounds
10 Bronze/Common rounds
You’ll build a 26-man squad consisting of 12 pitchers and 14 position players. The key to drafting effectively is knowing where the game allocates higher-tier cards and building your team’s core around that.
Draft Your Diamonds Thoughtfully
Your four Diamond rounds are your bread and butter. Never use them on relief pitching unless you absolutely have to. In BR, offense is king, and you only play three-inning games. Prioritize powerful bats in your Diamond rounds—preferably players with high contact and power splits against both lefties and righties.
Target players who are:
Multi-positional (flexibility helps)
Speed threats with great defense (center fielders or shortstops)
Power bats with clutch ratings (middle of the order)
Plan Your Pitching Around Budget Rounds
Since you won’t be playing full 9-inning games, your pitching strategy differs from ranked seasons. You only need:
1–2 reliable starters (rest can be low-tier)
3 go-to bullpen arms (1 dominant righty, 1 lefty, 1 situational)
Use Silver or Gold rounds to draft your top bullpen pieces. Many Silver relievers in The Show are just as good as Golds if you know who to target (think pitchers with 90+ H/9 and wipeout sliders).
Don’t Ignore Bench Depth and Platoon Advantage
While your starters will get most of the ABs, smart players always draft bench bats who can neutralize late-inning matchups. Grab at least two solid lefty/righty pinch hitters based on your lineup construction.
Fielding Still Matters
Avoid loading your roster with big bats who are liabilities on defense. A poor defender in a tight 3-inning game can cost you runs and games. Ideally, players with 70+ fielding and decent reaction are preferred.
Draft With Matchups in Mind
Check the player splits when drafting. Someone with 115 power vs. left but only 60 vs. right may not be effective in a pool filled with right-handed pitchers. Draft bats that are more balanced or complement the rest of your lineup.
Final Thoughts
Battle Royale is about capitalizing on short-term strength. You don’t need a balanced full-season roster. Instead, lean into volatility. Prioritize hitting, grab a few shutdown bullpen arms, and stay flexible with your late picks. If you plan your tiers in advance and avoid wasting Diamonds or Golds on marginal upgrades, you’ll consistently build 12-win capable squads. |
