When you push through Act One’s Treacherous Ground and end up in the Vile Nest, you’ll run head‑first into The Devourer. It’s a giant worm boss with a fight space that feels tight from the start – parts of its body already block your movement, and there’s barely room to dance around. The first thing that really matters? That burrow strike. The moment it dives underground, watch for a flickering red‑black circle under you.
You only get a couple of seconds to dodge, and if you’re slow, that hit can drop you instantly. This is not the time to squeeze in an extra swing. Keep shifting around the arena, especially if your build’s mobility is poor. Having some ranged or elemental skill ready – or even a stash of PoE 2 Items that boost damage – makes life easier here.
As for damaging this beast, don’t be fooled by its big soft‑looking head. Pure physical hits barely scratch it, and that’s a pain for melee builds and bow users. The good news is it’s much weaker to elemental damage. Fire, cold, lightning – take your pick, they all cut through its health a lot quicker. If you’re locked into a physical setup, think about grabbing gear that adds elemental damage or use a skill support that changes part of your output. Getting used to mixing in elemental power early in the game isn’t just handy for this fight – it’ll make clearing mobs faster and can lead to better loot drops along the way.
The tail is the biggest distraction in here. It pops up, looks scary, sometimes even swipes at you – but hitting it does absolutely nothing to the boss’s HP. All it’s really doing is filling the space with another hazard. Treat it like moving terrain and keep your focus on the head. The other extra you’ll be dealing with is the larvae swarm. If you’re firing from a distance, kill them quickly before they clog up your line of fire or block your movement. Melee players often tag them naturally with area damage while targeting the head, but don’t let them pile up too much. Being boxed in here is a death sentence.
Once you finally wear the worm down, you’ll grab some gold and whatever items drop. The real score is turning the quest in to Renly – he’ll hand you an Uncut Support Gem, which is a strong boost for your build or a nice bit of trade fodder. If you know where to go, you can flip it fast for currency and keep your gear moving up. That’s why, in this fight, the winning formula’s pretty simple: don’t stand still, lean on elemental damage, and don’t waste time on the tail. Bag the reward, and it might be the perfect moment to check out u4gm poe for an extra push in your next run. |
