The sand mold consists of two parts; coping (top) and resistance (bottom). Each mold is contained in an enclosure called a flask. The sandbox acts as an external frame, forming sand by compressing the model and determining the overall mold size. Before the flask is closed, the core can be placed in the mold to form an internal casting configuration. Create sprue holes into which molten aluminum is poured.
During the aluminum sand casting process stage where aluminum solidifies, each casting is "unearthed" from the sand during the shakeout process. A mold may contain multiple molds connected together by runners, gates, and risers for distributing and feeding molten aluminum. Once the shakeout process is complete, the casting is transferred to the finishing operation, where gates and risers are removed and parting lines are ground flat. Castings may undergo additional processing or secondary operations at the customer's request before final shipment. |
